Can someone please proofread this.?

"There was no one. Christmas hasn't been around since the beginning of time. When I was born in the 3rd century AD, Christmas wasn't celebrated like it is today. In my youth I became a tireless crusader in Europe on behalf of poor children in my village. Back then the poor kids in my village would leave their shoes outside during the overnight hours, so I started anonymously leaving money in them for them and their family. The Great Ak and the council of the immortals up north began to notice. They created a position for me where I would leave toys and candy for all of the children of the world on one night of the year, Christmas Eve. Me and Mrs. Claus was given immortality and the rest is history. I didn't however start giving presents to only to the good boys and girls until the 18th century when an upset girl wrote me a letter about her mean brother."
